It was simply a wonderful day for a classic game of burby at the Hood. We have been spoiled this summer with the weather!
I believe both teams were looking forward to this match up all week. The Spartans and the Hawks are both loaded with pitching and have dangerous hitters at every spot.
Owen would get the start for Riverdale and was spectacular for the first 3 innings, striking out all 6 batters he faced. Wayner would take the bump to start Gerrard St and only give up a single and strike out 3 in his two innings.
Scotty Baker would relieve McDonald in the 4th and promptly loaded the bases, but would escape with no damage. Eagan took the mound for the Railhawks in the 3rd and would be on top of his game for the remainder. Gerrard St would strike out 10 in this one, while only giving up 3 singles and a couple walks to Spartan hitters.
Owen would retake the hill in the 6th and gave up a long triple to Derrick. But that runner would be stranded and this game would remain scoreless at the end of 7.
The Hawks are definitely procrastinators though and in the top of the 8th, the bats would wake up. Derrick would start the inning with a solo shot to centre-left and Eagan, Papa T and Darren would all single or walk before Derrick walked in a second run. Choo choo!
Junior scared his teammates with a couple quick walks in the bottom but would strike out the next 2 to close this one out.
This game did not disappoint either side, it was a fun one to be a part of and would take only 1:45 to complete.
