Game Summary

The day we have been anticipating all winter finally arrived- Opening day for the Toronto Burby League!

The Riverdale  Spartans squared off against Cliffside Heights in a game that was a chance for the Heights to avenge last year's quarter final loss.

Young lefty Owen Mcdonald looking to build on last year's stellar season, took the mound for the Spartans but quickly gave up two runs in the first.  Luciano Perna took to the rubber for the Heights and did his crafty best but before long the Spatans had knotted the game at two with some walks and some clutch hitting.

It was a back and forth affair with both teams leaving men on base more often than they'd like, but ultimately the Spartan's gutted out a 4-2 win.

Marty Patience came in with another excellent relief effort. as did Gino for the Heights, but in the end it came down to some excellent at bats for Riverdale. Owen Mcdonald went 3 for 6 and TJ Mcann did his usual work, going 3 for 4.  Last year's slugger of the year Paul Braunstein struggled to find his groove with only one extra base hit on the day.

In the end it was a great way to kick off the season for the Spatans who hope to prove last year's second place finish in the regular season was no fluke.
