This was a day the Hawks had been looking forward to a couple weeks ago. A great test against a scary Dusters team, a forfeit was never going to sit well with Gerrard St. Even a Cherry-less Beach squad consists of Toman, O’Brien, Scotland and Atkinson. A challenge on any day!!
Beauty summer morning at the Hood, little bit of cloud, wind blowing right and some of the finest pitching you will see in the game of burby. O’Brien and Wayner would get the start. The keep-you-on-your-toes lefty went 4 up 4 down for the Hawks. Kevin was overpowering in his 4 innings, giving up only a lead off triple to Darren, scattered a few walks and fanned 6 along the way.
Toman would come on in the 5th and simply take O’Brien’s baton to continue shutting Down the Hawks. Chris would go another 5 innings (yes, 5!) of scoreless ball.
Whiz kid Eagan toed the rubber in the third and went 10 up 10 down. This was indeed a perfect game for the Railhawks through 7!! But you can’t win if you don’t score. Toman would hit a double to start the 8th to break it up
There was some phenomenal defence in this game! Scotland and Atkinson made a couple grabs the dirt in your face way and Robbie grabbed another climbing the fence to steal a triple from Eagan and a walk off win in the 9th. Osborne would make 8 plays himself in left and not an error in sight. Some very competitive hustle!
Atkinson would take the hill in the 10th and despite pitching quite well, the Hawk bats started moving the train along. They left the bases loaded in the 10th
Toman would take Eagan deep in the 11th, scoring the ghost runner as well. These were the only 2 hits of the day for the Dusters! 2-0 going into bottom of 11
The Hawks finally said enough is enough and decided to coal up a freighter. Everybody had a walk or a hit to keep the runners moving and Papa T brought in the decisive run with a walk. Every Hawk had at least 2 hits and a BB in this one. Just scattered through 11 innings, lol
What a game of baseball, exactly what everyone was anticipating!!
