Back to nail biters for the Hawks as the Riverdale Spartans “visited” the Hood on a cool, windy Sunday afternoon. This game was truly a TBL classic and was as fine a pitching duel as we will come across in our fine league.
Wayner did his best Boomer Wells impression starting for the Hawks and would go 2 clean. Marty Patience got the bump for the Spartans and would yield the hill to Mike Murphy after a couple of quick hits in the 4th and after a walk Papa Tormey would drive in the game’s only run with a bases loaded single.
So much great defence in this game, it can’t be emphasized enough. Plays were made by every single player on both teams and there wasn’t anything close to resembling an error, despite the wind playing its typical havoc at the Hood. Paul Bombstein and Darren Osborne made some terrific plays of note.
Eagan would finish the game for the Hawks and would pitch an efficient and effective five. This game would be over in 1:20, one of the quickest I’ve seen in my short time in the TBL.
