THE FORECAST FOR TBL 2025
The Toronto Burby League is embarking on its remarkable 16th season. In that time a unique group of ballers have come and gone and come back again! There’s just something about this game that pulls at the 10 year old inside us all.
For the newbies that never played during their childhood, they too can see the allure of the game and its attraction. It’s got all the same nostalgia as baseball except you as a player are so much more involved. In one single game you can throw a gem on the mound, pound the ball at the plate and make gold glove catches in the field. Not to mention those that do all of that AND manage a team to victory. AND creatively write a story on the game AND take memorable photos for all to see.
Even if you didn’t perform any of these things you would say it was a great day to be out with the boys.
So we embark on another season with our 10 year old selves. That version of us is putting on his uniform and approaching the games as our childhood heroes would.
Who did you emulate back in the 80’s 90’s and early auts?
Was it the craftiness of Greg Maddux? The power of Frank Thomas? The feathery moves of Devon White? Or maybe the all around hustle of Ricky Henderson? For me it was Tony Fernandez and his silky smooth demeanor. We tend to compete like they did all the while knowing it’s just a fun distraction from every day life. A much needed 2 hour time travel.
A truly interesting season is ahead. The year is taking form after only a couple games. Early reports can see that the front runners are The Beach Dusters, Riverdale Spartans, Gerrard St. RailHawks and Leslieville Brickies (Booooo!)
Not far behind are the Cliffside Heights, Guildwood Cobra Kai and Van Horne Vipers.
Still figuring this year out are the Lansdowne Launch Anglers and Birchmount Burbarians.
9 teams. All filled with differing expectations yet sharing the same feelings on game day. It’s going to be a great year. Let’s cherish every moment and celebrate that our youthfulness is as strong as ever.
Cheers
