2021 Kings’ Playoff Elimination Matchups
3rd Seed (Home Team) Don Mills Blue Jays vs 6th Seed (Visiting) Birchmount Burbarians
11am Sunday @ The Hood
Two-game season totals:
Runs – 29-3 favoring Don Mills (scores of 9-0 and 20-3)
Hits – 30-8 favoring Don Mills (both games by a 15-4 advantage)
On June 19th at the Hood (11am), the same time as this upcoming playoff game will happen, Don Mills won 9-0, with the Burbarians making three errors (those do happen), which opened the door to some key rallies for the Blue Jays. Massey with 7 hits and the Burb’s making all their 12 of their outs in the field, to go along with 7 walks on the mound, this game had the chance to be closer if not for a good day by some, and not so good for others.
The second of two matchups, this time August 8th at the Den – despite Birchmount notching 4 Ks on the mound, they gave up 13 walks. Don Mills were led by Sleigh having a tremendous regular season (3 hits), and Mike Murphy with 4 of his own – to go along with a stronger pitching performance each week, leading up to the playoffs.
Prediction: Don Mills +8
Players to look for: (DM) Murphy, Sleigh; (BB) Small, Herbert
4th Seed (Home Team) Agincourt Hitmen vs 5th Seed (Visiting) Riverdale Spartans
2pm Sunday @ The Hood
Two-game season totals:
Runs – 21-13 favoring Agincourt (scores of 17-9 and 4-4)
Hits – 20-13 favoring Riverdale (games with advantages of +3 and +4, respectively)
On June 5th at Guildwood, Marty Patience led his team, with the Hitmen pitching tandem that included Greg Bouyouris recording 9 Ks on the mound. Earlier this season, Scott Baker was unable to find the strike zone consistently, yet still left the mound with his team leading 9-6, despite only 3 Ks himself. The Spartans fell apart afterwards, and a mercy inning of 13 runs (+9 after tying the score), led to this unfortunate result – or incredible one – depending on your vantage point.
The second of two matchups, this time at the Hood on July 17th(2pm), the same time as this upcoming playoff game will be, both teams were more evenly matched. Riverdale had 11 Ks on the mound, to go with 11 walks at the plate: with Agincourt almost in relatively the same territory, 8 Ks on the mound and 8 walks at the plate, as a team. Riverdale scored in the first inning, then had to score in the last inning, before an extra inning tie was called on account of the children.
Prediction: Agincourt +1
Players to look for: (AH) Patience, Bouyouris; (RS) Baker, Williams
