TBL OFF SEASON PLAYERS
The TBL finals are long but over. The World Series now a distant memory. Where and how do Burby vets get their sporting fix? Well there are some that make athletics a career. Others that compete just as hard at random games as they do on the Burby field. And of course there are the journalists that live and write vicariously through professional athletes. Here is a list of 10 Burby enthusiasts that are staying sportingly busy this offseason.
1. Kevin Leach (The Beach)
When he is not playing for the Beach he may be asking " which way to the Beach?" The fireballer spends most of his spare time weightlifting and is gearing up for his first bodybuilding competition. Look for him at an O.P.A event in the Men's Amateur Physique Division.
2. Jeff Snow (Leslieville)
The 2015 TBL playoff MVP is also one of the best Dodgeball players in the World!! He enters numerous tournaments in Vegas and has won the gold medal twice for Canada. He is currently training and hoping to once again make the Canadian national dodgeball squad and go to the World Championships in Australia.
3. Johnny Duco (The Beach).
The Duster Vet has been the assistant hockey coach of The Ryerson Rams since 2013. He has been an amateur coach for 5 years and he runs Skills Development sessions on the side.
4. Steve DiRenzo ( St.Clair)
The Italian Stallion has taken his love for road hockey to the international level. He recently came back from Switzerland where he helped Team Italy to the quarterfinals of The World Street Hockey Championships. He is currently in training with his Club team in Vaughn and he patiently waits for the 2017 Worlds in the Czech Republic.
5. Chris Toman(Beach) and Rob Leth (North York)
These 2 journalists live and breath sports. Both of these guys were recently immersed in champagne while covering the Jays during the MLB playoffs. Leth continues to give informative sports coverage on Global TV and Toman is the senior editor and reporter for Vice Sports.
6. Josh Sheppard (North York)
He is a satellite operator at Sports net. Sounds unsporting? Well Since he brings in literally every sporting event of any importance to Canadian sports fans, he has the opportunity to watch just about any sporting event he wants. Josh is just about as up date on sports that a person can be, while at work. Very sporting.
7. Adrian Golombek (Leslieville)
The Commish is also the go to camera guy for City Tv sports. When he is not in the locker rooms for the 4 major sports teams he is covering local Highschool sports. He also uses his connections to promote the TBL on City Tv and other news outlets.
8. Derek Young (Rockets)
The 2014 League MVP is also the Marathon man. This past year he took his happy feet all across Canada as he ran in Van City and the TDot. Due to shoulder surgery he hasn't run since August but he just got the green light to hit the pavement again. Don't be surprised to see him in the Boston marathon in 2016.
9.Jason Hall (Junction) This Cobra Kai is the martial law of amateur hockey. He is a referee and a busy one at that. At least 3 times a week he is patrolling the rink for Junior A and OMHA games. He has the reputation as a fair and decisive Zebra. Is the NHL next for Jason Hall?
10.Andreas "The Greek" Constantinou (Bellwoods)
There are casual gamblers and then there are successful sports bettors pulling in wads of cash on a weekly basis. That's Andreas. Especially during the football season. "The Greek" makes savvy bets and is clearly on his way to buying a villa in Vegas.
