Game Summary

Kevin O’Brien added to his MVP case at The Hood on Aug. 10 in another Dusters shutout victory.

O’Brien was dominant on the mound and dangerous at the plate, and behind some help from Jack Cherry and Chris Toman, helped power the Dusters to an 11-0 victory over Riverdale.

The final tally for O’Brien: five scoreless innings of no-hit ball and five hits, including his league-leading 12th homer of the season.

It was the O’Brien show early, as the flamethrower brought his A-grade stuff to the mound on Sunday. Not much was put in play against him, and the same could be said in general.

Owen McDonald came out sharp, piled up some Ks and kept Riverdale in a dogfight for the first half of the contest.

It was a scoreless game until Toman got the Dusters on the board with an RBI triple in the fourth.

After some Spartans pitching changes, the Dusters started to pile on.

Cherry hit a three-run bomb in the fifth. Toman homered twice in the sixth. And then Cherry added his second of the game in the seventh, when O’Brien also jumped in on the home run brigade.

The Spartans threatened to bust the shutout in the final frame but Toman escaped a bases-loaded jam to seal the victory, improving the Dusters to 8-2.

That sets the stage for Dusters vs. Brickies this upcoming Saturday in a battle for first place.
